Belarus v Spain - World Cup Qualifier - not on TV!!

Spanish soccer fans are in danger of missing the national team's World Cup 2014 qualifier away to Belarus later on Friday as no television broadcaster has agreed to pay the price set by rights holders Sportfive to show the match in Spain.

Mediaset Espana's Telecinco channel typically broadcasts the world and European champions' away matches but by Friday morning had failed to reach a deal with Sportfive, part of France's Lagardere media group.

Mediaset's director of sports Jose Javier Santos told Spanish radio on Thursday that Sportfive's original asking price was three million euros ($3.88 million) and that had later been cut to 1.5 million euros.

Mediaset's offer was "a long way from that", he said, adding that as far as he knew no other broadcaster was bidding.

Local media reported it would be the first time a Spain World Cup qualifier had not been shown on national TV.

A Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) official, who was not identified by name, was quoted as saying in As sports daily on Friday that they hoped a deal was still possible.

The situation had arisen because declining advertising revenue and the economic crisis had reduced the amount of money broadcasters can spend on buying the rights to sports events, the official added.

"It worries me that people in Spain might not be able to see the match and follow their national team and it would leave a bad taste," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque told a news conference in Minsk on Thursday.

YouView - Can you receive UK YOUVIEW IN SPAIN?

YouView - Can you receive UK YOUVIEW IN SPAIN?

Simply the answer is no!

YouView is simply an extention of the UK Freeview service. That is the UK TV service that allows you to watch UK TV channels in the UK via a TV aerial.

As Freeview is not available in Spain, then the "live TV" options will not be available if using a "YouView" box in Spain.

Why can you not receive live uK TV channels using YOUVIEW IN SPAIN?

Quite simply, YouView set top boxes rely on receiving their Live TV channels via the TV aerial. As these siganls are not available to receive in Spain via a TV aerial, then the live TV option of YouView boxes will not be available in Spain.

What would be available on a YouView box in Spain?

As well as live Freeview signal, the YouView box is designed for On Demand services also.
Connected to a router and a minimum requirement of 3meg download, then the Iplayer and on demand services from BBC, ITV 4oD and On Demand fom Five will be available. In the uK.

These services will be blocked for use outside the UK and ROI, so some form of ip address blocking would be required to use these services.

You will only get YouView on YouView set top boxes.
If your set top box does not have the "YouView" logo, then you are not receiving YouView.

Remember; you cannot receive YouView in Spain.

BBC TV and Radio Changes in October 2012

BBC Red Button streams to be cut to one
As part of the BBC cost cutting drive the number of BBC Red Button video streams on satellite will be reduced to one - on the 15th October. The lone BBC Red Button video stream will be moved from its current frequency (Astra 2A tp 13 11954 H) to a new frequency : Astra 1N tp 45 10773 H 22 5/6

This move will mean the BBC will need to shuffle some of their other TV services around.

BBC TV and Radio Channels Frequency Changes
Early hours of 12 October 2012:

BBC Three / CBBC and BBC News will move to frequency 10818 V 22000 5/6

BBC ALBA and BBC One North East & Cumbria will both move to 10803 H 22000 5/6

BBC Four / CBeebies and BBC Red Button stream 1 will move to 10773 H 22 5/6

Some of the BBC Radio services will also change frequencies and will be split between 10803 H 22 5/6 and 10788 V 22000 5/6

Sky box users and Freesat box users should notice no difference, and these boxes should automatically make the requried frequency changes.

In case they do not, then a simple reboot of the Sky box or Freesat box should correct the problem and load the channels on their new frequencies.

Users of other satellite boxes will have to rescan for these channels on their new frequencies.

Loss of BBC Radio stations for Expats??

This will mean the BBC can close Astra 2A tp 13, which is a Pan European beam. As the BBC statement says:

"This will also mean that our radio services move from a European beam to a UK spot beam as DSat7 is the last of our European beam transponders. We use a UK beam for our TV services, so the radio services will be as available in the UK as our TV services. But it does mean that the radio services will no longer be receivable across much of mainland Europe. I’ve no doubt that some readers of this blog will be disappointed by this news. But I’m afraid European-beam transponders are not cost effective for us. We broadcast our services for UK audiences “in the clear” or unencrypted (which is what makes Freesat possible) and so for rights reasons we are limited in terms of the services that we are able to broadcast on a European beam. The BBC’s radio station for listeners outside the UK is the BBC World Service, and it is widely available throughout the world. In Europe you can receive the World Service in many different ways including on satellite from Eutelsat Hot Bird 8 at 13° East. It’s also available online 24 hours a day via the listen live link from the BBC World Service homepage."

Changes to the BBC Red Button Service from October 2012

Ads per http://www.satandpcguy.com/forum/showthread.php/114406-BBC-TV-and-Radio-changes-in-October-2012 , the BBC are making some changes to the BBC Red Button service.

They will be reducing the available stream from 5 to one.

This will mean that the BBC will not be able to offer the choice of coverage we have previously and big events will no longer be multi-screen on red button. This will be a disappointment for many viewers, particularly sports fans, who will lose things like multiple Formula 1 screens and table choice for Snooker.
