Entertainment Extra + : Sky launches new pack to boost 3D

Sky TV has introduced a new basic tier TV subscription designed to drive uptake of its 3D channel.

Entertainment Extra + will offer subscribers access to 3D entertainment content such as Galapagos via the linear Sky 3D channel and on-demand service.

3D sports and film content will be blocked for Entertainment Extra + customers – remaining accessible only by the broadcaster’s top tier Sky World subscribers.

The £31.50 per month pack, which launches in April, sits alongside the existing Entertainment and Entertainment Extra packs and also includes access to 45 HD channels.

Currently subscribers to the Entertainment and Entertainment Extra packs, who pay £21.50 and £26.50 per month respectively, must pay an additional £10.25 for access to the HD channels but this will be cut to £5.25 from April.

As part of the changes Sky will move its archive library of shows exclusively onto the new Entertainment Extra + pack.

Sky’s brand director of TV products Luke Bradley-Jones said in a blog post that the new pack was designed to convert SD homes into 3D and HD homes.

"This is the wrong card for this set top box" - use your Sky card in your home in Spain

You can use a Sky TV subscription card from the UK in Spain so that you can watch all your Sky TV and British TV channels in Spain.

However, if you use a Sky card in a different Sky box, then for some Sky TV channels, like Sky Sports and Sky Movies, then you will be unable to watch these channels. You will get the "This is the wrong card for this set top box" error message on the screen.

Using our satellite receiver, you can now watch Sky Sports and Sky Movie channels in your holiday home, without the need for "pairing" the card with Sky TV.

BBC "SATBACK" Sytem on Intelsat 27.5W - currently available with new BISS Keys

In a previous post ( http://satandpcguy.com/blog/2012/12/loss-of-uk-tv-channels-on-recently-installed-satellite-tv-systems-in-costa-del-sol-and-marbella-areas-of-spain/ ) we mentioned that there is a satellite that is carrying BBC ITV C4, and in HD, for free, that can be received on a small satellite dish ( http://www.satandpcguy.com/Site/intelsat_907_uk_tv_channels.php )

This is of particular interest to people in South of Spain and Portugal, who may be panicking about the potential loss of their UK TV with the "change to the new satellites".

However, this system relies on "hacking" into some encrypted signals.

And people who bought this system, with the promise of "trouble free future proof" UK TV viewing, only has this for a few weeks, as the key codes to unlock this system were changed.

Well at the moment the code keys are "public" and are available - so if you have a compatible receiver, and a dish for 27.5w, then you can currently watch BBC ITV C4 channels using a small dish - ideal for people who may struggle with reception due to the new satellites coming into play...but for how long will these code be public....?

ESPN in talks to sell UK sports rights - closing in May 2013??

Sports broadcaster ESPN is reportedly in talks to sell its UK sports rights as speculation over the future of its UK channels mount.
ESPN UK lost out on Premiership Football and other rights following BT's entry to the sports rights market last year. Coverage of Premier League matches on ESPN UK ends this May, leaving the channel with a reduced portfolio of sports rights.

According to a report in media journal Broadcast today, the broadcaster is now in negotiations with other parties, thought to include BT and Sky, to sell its remaining rights to events including FA Cup and SPL matches. Any transfer of rights would have to approved by the relevant authorities who originally awarded the rights to ESPN.

The reports have raised fears that ESPN's UK channels might close following the end of the current football season.

ESPN has been on air in its current format since 2009, when it acquired numerous sports rights following Setanta's collapse in June of that year. Before then, it operated ESPN America as a standalone channel showcasing sport from its U.S. service.
